What is the Summer Academy Team timeline (i.e., tryouts, practices, etc)?
Tryouts are held each November. Teams are announced mid-December. Players will have an opportunity to meet teammates, coaches, and Islanders staff at a Meet-n-Greet in February. An Academy Summer Team Day Camp is held each year in the middle of May. Camp will include training from our Academy Coaches and Pro Team Players. Players will also receive a meal, and have chances to win prizes from competitions. Practices begin last week of May or first week of June, depending on coach, and run through July. Up to three tournaments will be played throughout the summer.
Yes. The Academy season runs when Club Teams are in the off-season. Academy tournament schedules are posted in November so that if your Club Team runs year-round, you can compare schedules.
Do I have to attend all practices?
We ask players to attend two scheduled practices per week, and encourage players to attend as many speed/agility sessions as possible. The Academy season is a short season, so we ask players to attend all practices if possible so that the team and player can progress and compete in tournament play. The Academy understands it is summer time and family vacations take priority. Players will be excused for family vacations. Coaches will distribute a conflict calendar in February for all players/families to complete. Players can make up lost sessions with other teams as well.

We ask players to attend all tournaments. Tournament costs are a big part of the overall Academy Team cost — so it is beneficial for the player to attend all tournaments. What if my son or daughter misses some sessions. Can they be made up?
We encourage players that miss sessions to make them up with another Academy team that is close in age/level of play. Example: u9s that miss sessions can make up sessions with the 2nd u9 team or with u8s or u10s. Schedule will be placed on the web in April of each year.
