Harrisburg City Islanders defender, Abass Mohammed, has been selected to represent the Ghanaian senior national team in their World Cup qualifier against Uganda on Saturday, October 7th in Uganda, and against Saudi Arabia in an International Friendly on October 10th in Saudi Arabia.
Mohammed is one of 26 men chosen by Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, and one of three players to currently represent a team in the United States. The 26-man roster will be cut to 23 players as the team prepares for their match.
Mohammed has made 19 appearances for the Islanders in 2017 totaling 1,625 minutes on the pitch. His defensive statistics include 43 clearances, 53 interceptions, and 149 duels won. Find more stats here.
Prior to his season with the Islanders, the Ghanaian footballer played for Inter Allies FC, a Ghanaian football club, where he was noted as a top defender. Mohammed joins two other players who currently represent teams in the United States; Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah, both members of the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.
