City Islanders Youth Academy Offers Elite Youth Clinic in Harrisburg

Islanders host top-class soccer developer, SL Benfica’s Jose Oliveira for a series of youth clinics in Harrisburg

 (HARRISBURG, PA)-The Harrisburg City Islanders are thrilled to offer Central Pennsylvania youth soccer players and coaches a once in a lifetime development opportunity.  On February 23rd and 24th the City Islanders will host Jose Oliveira, of Portugal’s SL Benfica, as he will run three youth-clinics for players U9-U14, and give a free coaching seminar in Harrisburg.

Oliveira is SL Benfica’s technical coordinator, having the responsibility of planning and implementing the club’s international expansion and youth football organizational model.  Oliveira holds a UEFA A licensee from the Portuguese Football Federation, and is considered one of the best attendees in the class.  He also attended the UEFA-Grassroots project in Zagreb, Croatia, and has participated in training sessions held in Manchester United at Old Trafford and at Carrington.  At the international level, Oliveira participated in several partnerships and technical education programs in countries such as Angola, Saudi Arabia, Canada, USA, UK, Spain, Holland, Greece, and more.

The February youth clinics will focus on the tactical, the technical and physical aspects of the game.  The clinics are designed for youth players who already have solid fundamentals of the game.  City Islander players and coaches will assist Oliveira with the clinics.

The development clinics will be held at the “Twin Ponds West Sports Complex”, located at 200 Lambs Gap Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.  Registration immediately closed due to high demand .  All clinics will be co-ed and players will be split into three age groups, U9-10, U11-12, and U13-U14. Times for each age group are as followed:

Upon the completion of Monday’s U9-U10 clinic, Oliveira will host a free coaching session for coaches in the Central PA area.  The coaching session will be held from 9-9:45 p.m. at the “Twin Ponds West Sports Complex”. There is no cost for admission, and is limited to 25 coaches.

Harrisburg City Islanders Youth Academy:

The City Islanders Academy began in 2004.  The Academy provides area youth soccer players the opportunity to play high-level soccer with players throughout Central Pennsylvania.  The Academy curriculum is designed to advance players throughout their soccer careers, from youth, to high school, to college, to pros using multiple soccer techniques, tactics, and formations to be able to fit into any style of play.  Players experience a training camp staffed with Academy coaches and City Islanders Pro Players and training throughout the summer months.  Teams compete in three summer tournaments and a possible Regional tournament with the opportunity to advance to Nationals.
