Had pair of goals as City Islanders defeated Red Bulls Reserves

TAMPA, Fla. – USL PRO named its Team of the Week for Week 21 of the 2014 season on Tuesday as Harrisburg City Islanders forward Pedro Ribeiro was named Player of the Week. Ribeiro had a pair of goals as the City Islanders took victory against the New York Red Bulls Reserves, and also put in a strong performance in Harrisburg’s victory against Orlando City to help his side move into fifth place in the USL PRO standings.

Ribeiro opened the scoring just past the half-hour mark against the Red Bulls Reserves with an outstanding turning finish from the right side of the penalty area into the left corner of the net. The Philadelphia Union loanee added to Harrisburg’s lead seven minutes into the second half for his fourth goal of the season. The Brazilian forward also played an important role in Saturday’s win against Orlando, as he held up play and linked well with the rest of the City Islanders’ attack in a 3-2 victory against the Lions.

Another pair of City Islanders were selected to the Team of the Week, as midfielders Robbie Derschang and Yann Ekra both earned places. Derschang scored twice in Harrisburg’s victory against Orlando, including an outstanding free kick to open the scoring, while Ekra was superb at both ends of the field against both the Red Bulls Reserves and Lions.

Orange County’s Allan Russell joined Ekra and Derschang in the Team of the Week midfield after he helped the Blues snap a six-game losing streak with a strong midfield performance that was capped by the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win against Rochester on Sunday. The LA Galaxy II’s Andre Auras completed the quartet as his excellent free kick proved to be the game-winning goal in Los Dos’ 3-2 win against Arizona United SC.

Auras’ Galaxy II teammate Charlie Rugg was also selected after he had a goal and an assist in the win against Arizona, while Dayton’s Karamba Janneh completed the attacking trio as his stoppage-time penalty earned the Dutch Lions a 2-1 victory in Wilmington.

Dutch Lions defender Brock Granger also earned selection to the Team of the Week as he scored and was solid defensively in a 2-2 draw with Charleston Friday night. He was joined in the back by Sacramento’s Nemanja Vukovic, who featured as Republic FC limited Oklahoma City to only six shots, and Richmond’s Sascha Görres, who was solid defensively and a threat down the flank as the Kickers defeated Charlotte. The side is completed by Pittsburgh goalkeeper Michael Lisch, who had a four-save shutout to lead the Riverhounds to a 1-0 victory against Orange County, which included an outstanding last-minute save to preserve all three points for the ‘Hounds.

The USL PRO season continues on Wednesday night as the Charleston Battery welcome Orange County Blues FC to Blackbaud Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff to begin five consecutive days of USL PRO action. Thursday night sees OKC Energy FC host Arizona United SC at Pribil Stadium at 8 p.m. ET, while the weekend’s schedule includes eight contests that will continue to shape the USL PRO Playoff race.
