Rush Soccer Product Makes USL Debut After Seasons Overseas
Harrisburg, PA (March 2, 2017) – The Harrisburg City Islanders announce the signing of defender Travis Brent, pending League and Federation approval. Brent’s signing with the Islanders marks his debut in the United Soccer League (USL).
Brent, a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, joins the Harrisburg City Islanders after playing two seasons of professional soccer in the Netherlands. In 2014, Brent signed a one-year contract with Heracles Almelo, a representative of Netherland’s top soccer division, the Eredivisie. Brent spent the 2015-16 season with the club, before signing with Almere City (Netherlands) in 2016. With Almere City, the defender made 10 appearances and collected 715 minutes of playing time.
Prior to his professional soccer career, Brent was noted as a defensive star at Marshall University in West Virginia. During his time with the Thundering Herd, Brent competed in all 67 appearances, starting in 64 of the matches. He accumulated numerous accolades throughout his collegiate stint with Marshall, including being named to the Conference USA Third Team in 2013, Conference USA ALL-Freshman team in 2010, and the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, also in 2010. Brent co-captained the 2013 Thundering Herd team.
Furthermore, Brent had a standout youth career, serving as Captain for Landstown High School and coming up through Virginia’s Rush Soccer Club. A little more than a decade old, Rush Soccer is touted as the largest youth soccer organization in the world, yielding over 34,000 youth soccer players nationwide, and has expanded to international markets throughout Africa, South and Central America, Europe, Asia, and the islands of the Caribbean.
Harrisburg’s Head Coach Bill Becher comments on adding the Virginia native to the roster.
“Travis brings a lot of overseas experience to this team and plays a position that we needed this year. He meshes well with the other guys and I think he’s going to be a big contributor this season.”
Brent is pleased to join the Harrisburg City Islanders in the upcoming season.
“To wake up every day and play the sport that you love is a pleasure, but knowing that it’s your profession is a dream. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to continue my professional soccer career with the Harrisburg City Islanders and eagerly await the chance to play and entertain our club and our supporters,” states the USL rookie.
