Keystone Derby Returns in 2017

Islanders and Riverhounds Battle for Keystone Derby for 3rd Year in a Row

Harrisburg, PA (April 06, 2017) – K&L Gates and The Pennsylvania Lottery have renewed their partnership with the Harrisburg City Islanders and Pittsburgh Riverhounds to be the presenting sponsors of the 2017 Keystone Derby Cup.

This marks the second-straight season that K&L Gates, a global law firm, and the Pennsylvania Lottery will be sponsoring the Keystone Derby Cup. The continued support from our sponsors along with the play on the field between these two USL rivals make this derby one of the most anticipated in the league.

The Keystone Derby Cup is in its third year and crowns the team who wins the season series between the two Pennsylvania clubs. Last season, the Islanders took the cup for the first time after season of thrilling games both in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh.

The 2017 edition of the Keystone Derby Cup features three games between the Islanders and Riverhounds. Pittsburgh is set to host the first leg of the competition on Saturday, April 29 at Highmark Stadium. Harrisburg has home field advantage for the series this year with two games at FNB Field on Wednesday, May 24 and Saturday, August 12 both at 7 p.m.

In 2016 Harrisburg took the cup in a series of close games that included two draws. The lone win last year was a 2-1 Islanders victory on the road at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh. The Islanders were able to grab two first-half goals and hold off a late game push by Pittsburgh to get the leg up in the derby.

Harrisburg and Pittsburgh traded late goals in the final matchup that ended in a 1-1 draw on City Island. The tie was just enough to give the Islanders their first Keystone Derby Cup win in team history.

Pittsburgh was able to capture the cup in its inaugural season with a series of high scoring games that left the season series with a final 16-12 aggregate score in the four games played.

Harrisburg dropped both games on the road in Pittsburgh, but took one back at home before falling in the final game of the season.
Harrisburg is set to play its highly anticipated home opener against another in-state rival, the Bethlehem Steel FC on Saturday, April 15 at 7 p.m. Come out to #RockTheIsland and cheer your Islanders on to victory.
