Islanders Travel to Pittsburgh for Round 1 of the Keystone Derby
Harrisburg, PA (April 28, 2017) – The Harrisburg City Islanders are set to start their defense of the Keystone Derby Cup presented by K&L Gates and the Pennsylvania Lottery, when they travel to Highmark Stadium to take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m.
Last season the City Islanders took home their first Keystone Derby Cup when they went 1-0-2 against their cross-state rivals. Harrisburg took a 2-1 win in Pittsburgh last season with goals from Dante Leverock and Jose Barril.
The series between the two Pennsylvania clubs has produced some of the most dramatic matches throughout the years, including two incredible comebacks in the inaugural competition in 2015.
Harrisburg is on a three-game undefeated streak and looks to extend that with a strong performance in the Steel City. With a win, the Islanders will keep pace with the rest of the league and maintain a playoff spot.
One contributing factor to their success in these past few games is the scoring depth of the Islanders. Five different players have a goal so far this season ( Tiago Calvano, Aaron Wheeler, Paul Wilson, Cardel Benbow, and Manolo Sanchez).
Pittsburgh has only one win on the season and is currently on a three-game winless streak. Harrisburg’s defense and goalie Brandon Miller will have to deal with Corey Hertzog, the Riverhounds’ leading scorer with three goals so far this season. Hertzog is followed by both Marshall Hollingsworth and Kay Banjo who have two goals apiece.
Harrisburg has home field advantage in the Keystone Derby Cup this season, hosting the Riverhounds in two of their three meetings, and looks for another Keystone Derby Cup championship in 2017.
For those unable to catch the action in Pittsburgh, the Islanders will host an Official team watch party at Buffalo Wild Wings in Mechanicsburg. $5 TICKET VOUCHERS will be sold and are good for any 2017 Harrisburg City Islanders home match!
