MATCH PREVIEW: Harrisburg City Islanders v. Charleston Battery

Harrisburg, PA (May 17, 2017) – The Harrisburg City Islanders make their triumphant return to City Island for their first match at FNB Field in over a month when they take on the Charleston Battery Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

Harrisburg is undefeated at home this season and looks to add to that tally with a win against the Battery who sit atop of the Eastern Conference standings with only one loss on the season.

Saturday is the first of four meetings between the two clubs that only met twice last season. Charleston was able to come away with two one-goal victories in each match.

The Eastern Conference standings are extremely close. Eleven teams, between fourth and last place, are just six points away from each other. With a win, the Islanders would immediately leap back into playoff contention.

Harrisburg is riding  into the contest with two wins and two draws in their last four matches. Their top scorer is Islanders vet and team captain Aaron Wheeler, whose two goals include an impressive header against the 2016 Defending Champions, the New York Red Bulls II in their last meeting. Tiago Calvano, Cardel Benbow, Paul Wilson, and Manolo Sanchez follow Wheeler with a goal a piece so far this season.

The team’s offense has been effective, but their strong defense and the play of goalie Brandon Miller have also been vital. Miller has only conceded two goals in the last three games and has a less than one goals-against average on the season.

Charleston has not lost in their last five games and on average have scored eleven goals in those matches. The Battery have six players that have tallied goals on the season. Romario Williams leads the team in all scoring with six goals and one assist in seven games. His scoring is backed up by Forrest Lasso (4 goals) and Ataulla Guerra (3 goals).

The first 1,000 fans to the match on Saturday will receive a free Harrisburg City Islanders magnet schedule courtesy of Levin Promotional Products. Plus join the Capital City Crew and for a pregame party at McGrath’s Pub in Downtown Harrisburg.

After the match against the Battery, the Islanders will stay home to take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the second leg of the Keystone Derby Cup presented by K&L Gates and the Pennsylvania Lottery on Wednesday, May 24 at 7 p.m.
