Harrisburg Prepares to Face 2016 Defending USL Champs in First of Three Meetings
Harrisburg, PA (April 3, 2017) – After suffering a close loss in their first match of the season in Richmond, the Harrisburg City Islanders head back on the road to face the defending USL Champions, the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday, April 5 at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last season, the Islanders managed one goal and failed to grab a point in all three of their match-ups with the eventual league champs. The teams are set to meet three times again this season with the Islanders hosting only one of the games.
Harrisburg played a competitive game against the Richmond Kickers in their season opener a week ago. A failed penalty kick attempt early on by Aaron Wheeler became the difference in the game.
Richmond was able to capitalize on the Islanders’ missed opportunity to take three points out of the game when Conor Shanosky found the back of the net at the top of the second period.
The Islanders forwards will look to grab their first goals and points of the season against a tough opponent in the Red Bulls II.
The Red Bulls II opened up with a 3-3 draw against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at home with two goals from Vincent Bezencourt and one from Florian Valot.
Following Wednesday, Harrisburg will prepare for their home opener on Saturday, April 15 when they face their in-state rivals, the Bethlehem Steel FC. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets by April 14 for a special discount on general admission. Come out to FNB Field to help your Islanders #RockTheIsland in 2017.
