In their first meeting, Harrisburg shocked a rolling Louisville FC with a 1-0 win at FNB Field towards the beginning of the season. A goal from Pedro Ribeiro and a staunch defensive effort helped lift the Islanders over a rolling Louisville City side.
The Islanders have slipped in the rankings as of late but still have a chance with seven games left to find their way into the USL postseason. They currently have 24 points and sit seven points out of the top half of the table. Harrisburg only has two away games left, which means that home field advantage could play a huge role in getting them into the playoffs.
Getting rest has not been a luxury for the Islanders this season. In their recent turn of matches, they played four matches in the span of two weeks and it showed in their last match against the surging Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Now, the team has had 11 days between their last match and this one in Lousiville. Harrisburg is going to have to lean on their defense once again.
Harrisburg was able to hold the high power Louisville side off the board in the last match and will need that same energy tomorrow night. Louisville has five players with three or more goals; Luke Spencer leads the pack with 8 goals in only 16 appearances and is backed up by Cameron Lancaster.
Louisville City FC has only dropped one match at home and looks to take the first overall spot in the Eastern Conference with a win. If Harrisburg can get a win they will be just four points out of a spot in the playoffs.
Harrisburg returns to FNB Field for a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday, September 6 at 7 p.m. That matchup is followed by four straight matches at home. This is the Islanders chance to make their final push for the playoffs.
