Harrisburg, PA (May 22, 2017) – After a nailbiting finish in their last home game, the Harrisburg City Islanders will return to FNB Field to face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday’s matchup is the second game in the Keystone Derby Cup presented by K&L Gates and The Pennsylvania Lottery. Pittsburgh took the early lead in the season long series with a 1-0 win in Pittsburgh less than one month ago.
Harrisburg is currently riding a three-game undefeated streak at home with their most recent draw against the Charleston Battery. Pittsburgh was on a three-game winning streak before falling in their last game against Louisville City FC (1-0).
With a win, the Islanders will draw level with their cross-state rivals and remain unbeaten at home through the first two months of the season.
In the last game in Pittsburgh, the Islanders were hampered after Abass Mohammed was sent off the pitch when he received his second yellow card of the game. The Islanders held strong but the Riverhounds ultimately came out on top from a Corey Hertzog directed header in the 75th minute.
These two teams are no stranger to heated battles and exciting games and Wednesday’s game is going to be the newest chapter in that rivalry.
Aaron Wheeler leads all Islanders with two goals on the season followed by six other players who have tallied one goal apiece. One of those goal scorers, Manolo Sanchez, missed the Battery game due to an injury suffered in the Islanders U.S. Open Cup win days prior.
Hertzog bolsters the Riverhounds lineup with five goals in 10 games. They have also received scoring from a number of other players including veteran Kevin Kerr.
A win would put Harrisburg at 12 points on the season and push them towards the top half of the table in a very close Eastern Conference where nine teams are only separated by three points.
Harrisburg heads back on the road to face their other in-state rival, the Bethlehem Steel, on Sunday, May 28 at Goodman Stadium.
