MATCH PREVIEW: Islanders Prepare to Take on FC Cincinnati Tomorrow, July 22

The Harrisburg City Islanders will put their unbeaten streak on the line when they head to Nippert Stadium to take on FC Cincinnati at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 22.

Harrisburg used their home field advantage to grab seven points out of a possible nine in their last three matches. The seven points boosted the City Islanders into the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference and put them squarely in the hunt for a playoff spot.

While Harrisburg has been good at home, they haven’t been as successful on the road. They have picked up seven points out of a possible 27 on the season away from FNB Field. This game will be a test for a tired Islanders team who will be playing their fourth game in a two-week span.

Along with fatigue Harrisburg is also dealing with a host of injuries, but players like John Grosh, Jake Bond, and Ropapa Mensah have stepped up in the absence of key players.

Mensah is on a two-game scoring streak and has shown quality at the center forward position. Mensah’s strike against the Richmond Kickers was the ultimate game-winner and won the young player USL Goal of the Week.

Harrisburg might not have to do a lot on offense as their defense has been solid in four straight matches. In the last four games, Brandon Miller and the defense have only surrendered two goals, including two shutouts at home.

FC Cincinnati is riding a two-game winning streak into the game and has only lost once in their last seven USL matches. FC Cincinnati is led by Djiby Fall, who has 10 goals in only 13 games. Former Islander Jimmy McLaughlin is also a part of the Cincinnati side and has one goal on the season.

The two Eastern Conference foes are only separated by four points and a win for the Islanders would move them one spot up in the Eastern Conference.

Harrisburg will have a break in play following the Cincinnati match but stays on the road to take on Orlando City B on Wednesday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Orlando City Stadium. The Islanders return home on Tuesday, August 8 to take on the Rochester Rhinos in the second leg of the Capelli Sport Hero Cup. The team will host Community Cares Night and Wilco Electric will provide 200 t-shirts to the first 200 fans!
