After posting two wins in their last three matches the Harrisburg City Islanders return home on Wednesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. to take on the New York Red Bulls II at FNB Field.
Harrisburg comes back to FNB Field with a renewed chance for a playoff spot after taking six points out of a possible nine in their last three games. Harrisburg has jumped to 12th place in the standings and is only five points out of a playoff spot.
The City Islanders and Red Bulls have already met twice this season and have split the two games. Harrisburg took the first match with a 1-0 win at Red Bulls Arena, and New York took the most recent match on a 3-1 final score.
New York is in the final spot in the playoffs currently and a win for the Islanders moves them even closer to getting back into a playoff race.
Harrisburg was struggling with offense until their last few matches when Pedro Ribeiro emerged as a high-quality offensive threat with two goals in as many games. Ribeiro, however, suffered an injury in the last match against Rochester and his availability for the New York match is in question.
With that Harrisburg will have to find some new offense from players like Cardel Benbow and Paul Wilson to make up for the lack of scoring. Midfielder Jake Bond, who leads goal scorers in all competition, is also another likely candidate to step up.
The Islanders defense, who gave up three goals in the last match with New York, will look for a bounce-back game after surrendering four goals in their last two road matches.
New York comes into the match with 21 points on the season but only has one win in their last five matches, which includes three losses and one draw. In those five games, the Red Bulls II have also been shutout in three of those matches.
New York is led by a host of goal scorers, but Brandon Allen leads the team with nine goals on the season. His scoring is followed by Vincent Bezencourt (5G, 7A) and Junior Flemmings (4G).
Tomorrow is also Team Photo Night and the first 1,000 fans to enter the stadium will receive a 2017 Harrisburg City Islanders Team Photo complements of Graphtech.
